About the role
The Mechanical Engineer I role at the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) is an entry-level position. This role involves performing routine engineering functions on assigned projects or sub-projects of a general nature and limited scope. It also includes assisting in the design and/or project/process management of projects, products, programs, components, tools, and acceptance equipment under technical guidance.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the design and/or project/process management projects, products, programs, components, tools and acceptance equipment under technical guidance
- Participates in establishing operating procedures on new products and components
- Supports the development of testing procedures and performs routine to moderately complex engineering evaluations
- Analyzes evaluation reports and discrepancies to make recommendations that improve productivity and quality to reduce flowtime
- Interacts as a team with design agencies, suppliers and/or internal organizations under the guidance from experienced Mechanical Engineers to assist in product realization
Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
- Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
- Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited program in Engineering or Physics
- United States Citizenship
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
- Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)
Qualifications
- Previous relevant internship experience or equivalent preferred
- Demonstrates analytical skills, mathematical computations, computer software applications, and written documentation
- Demonstrates established technical methodologies to routine engineering projects
- Looks for opportunities to document improvements/innovations in approved processes
Skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of engineering standards and practices
