Mechanical Engineer - Dynamics and Vibration
About the Role
AMD’s Shock and Vibration Engineering team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support product qualification, reliability testing, and design validation activities across our portfolio of mechanical systems. This role provides an opportunity to work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure products meet performance, reliability, and customer requirements before release and shipment.
The successful candidate will develop and execute test plans, perform shock and vibration testing, analyze results, and provide engineering recommendations to improve product designs. This position requires a strong combination of mechanical engineering knowledge, hands-on laboratory experience, and problem-solving skills. Engineers in this role are expected to actively participate in product development efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify root causes, drive corrective actions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a highly hands-on position involving the setup and operation of test equipment, fixtures, instrumentation, and large-scale laboratory systems. The role requires the ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 40 pounds, operate overhead cranes and material handling equipment, and work with power tools and mechanical assemblies. Familiarity with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controls, laboratory safety practices, and data acquisition systems is beneficial.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated engineer who enjoys working both in the lab and with development teams, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is passionate about validating products and improving designs through testing and engineering analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute test plans for shock, vibration, and environmental testing.
- Perform testing to validate product reliability, quality, and performance.
- Analyze test results and provide engineering recommendations to improve product designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, quality) to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, test fixtures, and prototype hardware.
- Set up and operate specialized test equipment, including overhead cranes and material handling systems, following safety procedures.
- Document findings and present technical recommendations to engineering teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for product design and manufacturability.

- Knowledge of data acquisition systems, instrumentation, sensors, and test equipment.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and basic engineering data interpretation.
- Experience using power tools, hand tools, and mechanical assembly techniques.
- Familiarity with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) requirements and laboratory safety practices.
- Experience operating cranes, hoists, forklifts, or other material handling equipment.
Skills
- Mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Curiosity and desire to learn new technologies and test methodologies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
