About the role
Jordan & Skala Engineers (JSE) designs HVAC systems for multifamily and mixed-use buildings. We focus on projects ranging from mid-rise and high-rise towers to garden-style communities, including podium and garage-wrap construction. This role involves designing HVAC systems, performing load calculations, and supporting projects through construction.
Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems including ductwork, piping, and equipment sizing/selection
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations and apply results to system layouts
- Design and support DX equipment, VRV/VRF systems, and central plants (chilled water and heating water)
- Contribute to new construction and renovation/remodel projects
- Perform design calculations, equipment selection, and layout of HVAC equipment
- Produce clear, coordinated mechanical documentation in a Revit-first BIM workflow (plans, schedules, details, diagrams)
- Use or support energy/performance documentation such as COMcheck/REScheck
- Support design-phase deliverables across SD/DD/CD as applicable
- Cookordination & Construction Support
- Coordinate mechanical design with plumbing, electrical, architectural, and structural teams in a real-time Revit/BIM environment
- Support construction administration including submittal reviews, RFI responses, site visits, and field reports
- Communicate effectively with Owners, Contractors, Architects, and Code Authorities with a working understanding of cross-discipline requirements
Requirements
- Experience in HVAC/mechanical building systems design (consulting engineering preferred)
- Strong working proficiency in Revit (mechanical design within a BIM workflow)
- Solid understanding of HVAC fundamentals, applicable codes, and constructability considerations
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline)
Preferred
- Experience with Wrightsoft, Trane TRACE, and/or Carrier HAP
- Central plant design exposure (gas heat/heating water and chilled water systems)
- Experience with building energy performance software and compliance documentation (COMcheck/REScheck)
- Familiarity with green building certification criteria (e.g., LEED)
- EIT or P.E. license (or clear path toward licensure)
