Mechanical Engineer
About the role
Zalkin Americas is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design capping machines, capping machine accessories, and machine components for bottle capping machinery. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the design process, including analyzing application requirements, configuring systems, designing parts and assemblies, creating line layouts, maintaining documentation, and communicating with coworkers and customers.
Responsibilities
- Designing for manufacturability
- Working closely with the Sales Department to obtain customer specifications
- Configuring systems and designing parts and assemblies
- Maintaining documentation and communication with coworkers and customers
- Designing and modifying existing designs in equipment to meet performance specifications and customer requirements
- Analyzing data and determining the feasibility of the design or application
- Researching and analyzing data to determine the feasibility of the design or application
- Communicating with vendors as needed
- Performing design reviews with customers
- Interface with Manufacturing to ensure machinery designs are properly fabricated, parts machined, and assembled
- Interface with the Production Department to conduct machinery mechanical testing
- Interface with other departments such as sales/marketing, parts, purchasing, etc., to coordinate work/projects
- Prepare and direct reports to other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems
- Act as a technical resource for customers and Service Department's Service Technicians
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in machine design
- Designing for manufacturability
- Packaging experience preferred
- 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
- Fluent in use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD (2D)
- SolidWorks certification (CSWE / CSWP) preferred
- Sheetmetal experience and certification desired but not necessary
- A general knowledge of product handling, machine capabilities, and assembly principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to travel 10%
Qualifications
- Expertise in utilizing SolidWorks as the primary CAD platform
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for line layout creation/modification
- Knowledge of engineering principles, designs new products and systems that meet company standards and customer requirements
- Ability to modify existing designs in equipment to meet performance specifications and customer requirements
- Ability to research and analyze data, such as customer requirements, design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of the design or application
- Ability to learn and meet company quality standards and objectives and deadlines to successfully fulfill customers' requirements
- Ability to maintain a minimum amount of rework that meets the company's quality standards
- Ability to perform design reviews with customers and communicate with vendors as needed
- Ability to analyze and prioritize projects based on the scope of established internal operations schedule
- Ability to interface with Manufacturing to ensure machinery designs are properly fabricated, parts machined, and assembled
- Ability to interface with the Production Department to conduct machinery mechanical testing
- Ability to interface with other departments such as sales/marketing, parts, purchasing, etc., to coordinate work/projects
- Ability to prepare and direct reports to other departments to address and resolve inquiries and problems
- Ability to act as a technical resource for customers and Service Department's Service Technicians
- Ability to conduct machinery mechanical testing and interfaces with other departments

Pay
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Placement within our salary range is determined based upon years of directly relatable experience for your position. These components, along with local and national compensation survey data, contribute to deciding a candidate's potential starting rate of pay.
Schedule
The position requires occasional travel up to 10% of the time.
