Mechanical Engineer

About the Role

Provide engineering support including planning, designing, overseeing fabrication, and fielding special fixtures and machinery for the testing of military weapon systems and equipment. Incorporate state-of-the-art technology that requires adherence to established design standards, utilize existing or develop new testing procedures, and instrumentation systems.

Incumbent may be assigned independent responsibility for a project or serve as project engineer on a major, complex system that is part of a high visibility, high-cost program. Depending on experience, may lead a team of engineers and technicians on efforts involving transducers, calibrations, and new instrumentation systems. Exercises technical direction over engineering, technical test support, and other supporting personnel in the actual conduct of tests in the field or under simulated conditions. Makes assignments, reviews work, and provides instructions to such personnel relating to their function.

May develop process improvements including identifying, designing, developing, and implementing modifications/upgrades of existing facilities and equipment and their operating systems. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, oversee fabrication, and field special fixtures and machinery for military weapon systems testing.
• Adhere to established design standards and develop new testing procedures and instrumentation systems.
• Lead or serve as project engineer on complex, high-visibility programs.
• Provide technical direction to engineers, technicians, and support personnel during test execution.
• Assign, review, and instruct team members on their functions.
• Identify and implement process improvements, including facility and equipment upgrades.
• Work in extreme weather conditions, including temperatures up to 120°F.
• Lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, sometimes on short notice.
• Maintain professional relationships in a team setting.
• Use "down-time" effectively for the benefit of test operations, self, and company.
• Comply with safety, security, and company policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college/university, or equivalent experience.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening, physical, and periodic retests.
• Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Must possess a valid driver's license without special restrictions.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
• Must be a current TRAX employee or affiliate subcontractor for internal postings.
• Must demonstrate effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Must have dependable transportation and communication means.
• Must be punctual, responsible, dependable, and safety-conscious.

Skills

• Experience using SolidWorks or other 3D CAD programs.
• Experience with Dewesoft or LabVIEW Data Acquisition (desirable).
• Experience with Additive Manufacturing Controls and Programming (LABVIEW).
• Electronics, sheet metal fabrication, machining, or welding experience (desirable).

Qualifications

• 5 years' experience with SolidWorks or other CAD programs (desirable).
• 5 years' Mechanical Engineering experience (desirable).

Physical Requirements

• Capable of working in extreme weather conditions, including summer temperatures peaking around 120°F.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Must meet physical requirements outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
