About the Role

The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for participating in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. The engineer applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design.

Responsibilities

  • Research, development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost.
  • Design using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools; work alongside senior-level design engineers.
  • Work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems across multiple aircraft platforms.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees.
  • Oversee the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations.
  • Ensure proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.
  • Drive successful program execution by ensuring initiatives are completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with all processes, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Provide input into new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans that will have a measurable impact on overall function or business results.
  • Ensure program airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met.
  • Manage and work in a fast-paced, demanding environment with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.
  • Influence a wide range of audiences and demonstrate leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.
  • Run the total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.
  • Apply understanding of aircraft systems and various mission systems.
  • Lead experience on large prototype programs.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication (both verbal and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management.
  • Formulate strategic vision and define implementation plans to achieve success.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret with SCI security clearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of aircraft design experience, or
  • Graduate degree with 7 years of aircraft design experience, or
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of aircraft design experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret or Top-Secret security clearance.
