Mechanical Engineer

About the role

RHI Magnesita is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support operations and capital projects at our York, PA facility. Key responsibilities include safety oversight, project coordination, and technical support for equipment and structural issues.

Responsibilities

• Supports the development of a proactive safety culture
• Safeguards project work through supervision of internal and third-party contractors
• Collaborates with production, maintenance, and safety teams to define project scope, budgets, resources, and timelines
• Facilitates bidding and contractor selection processes
• Coordinates capital project activities while maintaining visibility on budget and timeline performance
• Ensures compliance with safety standards, fire protection, and plant regulations
• Communicates project progress, risks, and support needs to leadership
• Provides technical support for troubleshooting mechanical and structural issues
• Maintains records of engineering activities and recommends improvements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
• 5+ years of project engineering experience in heavy industry or manufacturing
• Strong understanding of mechanical equipment operation and machine design
• Proficiency with 3D modeling tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
• Experience with hydraulic systems (preferred)
• Familiarity with refractory, mining, or heavy industrial environments (preferred)
• Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams
• Strong communication and translation skills
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. when necessary

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of structural design principles and analysis
• Experience with platforms, plant structures, and supporting infrastructure
• Knowledge of OSHA or MSHA requirements
• Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Detail-oriented and organized

Skills

• Proficiency with 3D modeling tools
• Exposure to or familiarity with hydraulic systems
• Experience with refractory, mining, or heavy industrial environments
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Solutions-oriented mindset
