About the role
The Mechanical Engineer leads projects, mentors team members, and supervises the Mechanical Engineering team. This role focuses on the mechanical engineering of fired heaters, boilers, and steam methane reformers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the overall design, ensuring alignment with requirements from other disciplines such as Process, Instrumentation, and Structural engineering.
- Apply project specifications as defined by the purchase order, proposal, or select appropriate design criteria when absent.
- Supervise department work to ensure efficient and technically accurate project completion, including reviewing contract and client specifications for implementation.
- Perform or review mechanical calculations, such as pressure parts, tube support, and coil flexibility analysis.
- Prepare or review technical requisitions for items like pipes, fittings, refractory materials, fabrication, dampers, guillotines, sootblowers, expansion joints, tube support castings, and steam drums.
- Review vendor offers, drawings, and calculations.
- Establish assembly sequences and procedures, review shipping preparations, specify painting systems, and participate in constructability reviews.
- Support proposal activities by performing or reviewing pressure part calculations, tube support design calculations, weight estimates, and client specifications.
- Provide estimated man-hours for mechanical activities.
- Ensure all work complies with laws, codes, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Escalate unresolved conflicts to top management when necessary.
- Contribute to the technical and professional development of personnel.
- Interface with Project Managers, Engineers, Vendors, and Clients to achieve project goals.
- Maintain and control Mechanical Engineering Department Standards and Procedures.
- Travel to shop and/or job site as required (expected 10%).
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- 10 years of technical experience in a related field.
- Thorough knowledge of discipline technology, equipment, materials, and methods.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with limited guidance and supervision.
