Job Description

Fluor Marine Propulsion (FMP) - Bettis Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, PA, is a world class research and development facility that supports the United States Naval Nuclear Fleet. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplined Construction Projects Engineering group within the Bettis Construction Department. This team delivers projects from conception to closeout, including renovations, site infrastructure upgrades, and new construction of office buildings, laboratories, and test facilities. Project values typically range from $500k to $20+M. Our Mechanical Engineers are highly valued members of the project team and provide technical leadership within their area of expertise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the mechanical technical lead for assigned work, supporting project scoping, design reviews, construction field follow, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to select and design mechanical systems for office and laboratory type facilities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, calculations, and cost estimates for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Support oversight of Architectural Engineering firms and construction subcontractors to ensure code compliance and quality throughout the project cycle.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, develop design clarifications, and provide engineering solutions.
  • Prepare or contribute to engineering documentation such as design review comments, technical evaluations, and project correspondence.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
  • Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills

  • Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
  • Knowledge of building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and fire protection systems
  • Familiarity with building codes and standards (e.g., IBC, IMC, ASHRAE)
  • Experience reviewing specifications, drawings, other project requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and resolve technical issues
  • Strong communication skills, including experience collaborating with diverse technical disciplines and remote stakeholders

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Qualifications

All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. FMP is a government contractor and maintains a drug-free workplace and workforce. All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707. Marijuana is a Federal Schedule I controlled substance and illegal under Federal Law. Therefore, FMP is required to test for marijuana.
