About the Role
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer applies the laws of mechanical/structural energy and engineering principles to design and develop heat processing and/or process cleaning equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures. This role performs routine to intermediate engineering tasks with the goal of developing advanced applied engineering skills.
Responsibilities
- Prepare final drawings by studying engineering sketches, specifications, and supporting documents; develop layouts of systems, components, and parts; draw multiple views; depict relationships; and identify dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials.
- Function as the mechanical technical lead on assigned intermediate projects.
- Utilize computer-assisted engineering, design software, and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
- Occasionally oversee work assigned to Mechanical Engineers and Designers.
- Plan and organize structural analysis work to ensure compliance with structural integrity and stability requirements.
- Develop, integrate, and document complex or unique structural requirements to establish system design.
- Develop test plans and configurations, support test execution, and analyze/report test results to validate systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
- Define and organize test programs to substantiate compliance for customers and regulatory agencies.
- Modify drawings by studying changes; redrawing systems, components, and parts; and updating identifications.
- Utilize 3D CAD tools (e.g., Inventor) to perform engineering tasks.
- Maintain complete knowledge of sales contracts to define critical project criteria and ensure project completion within budget.
- Demonstrate professional skills in structuring activities, creativity, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving to adapt to client needs.
- Maintain accurate, neat records and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
- 3–5 years of related work experience in a Mechanical/Structural Design environment.
- Experience with Engineered-To-Order equipment and machine design production environments is a plus.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).
- Experience with FEA or CFD is a plus.
- Fundamental understanding of 2D CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Fundamental understanding of thermodynamics and fluid flow.
- Understanding of compliance requirements: NFPA, NEC, UL, CE, and OSHA.
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to record and log information accurately.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with strong decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in general office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, MRP/ERP systems).
- Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal, written, or diagram form.
Physical and Mental Demands
- Frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls.
- Regularly required to stand and walk.
- Occasionally required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders.
- Must occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
