Mechanical Engineer
About the role
HDR is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Michigan-based Power Generation team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical system design, particularly in power generation fluid systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and specify mechanical equipment and piping systems for power generation projects
- Develop construction documents such as P&IDs, system layout/installation drawings, and specifications
- Review and communicate with equipment vendors and contractors
- Write technical reports and procurement specifications
- Conduct code reviews and site visits
- Plan projects within assigned budgets and schedules
- Collaborate with engineers and designers from various disciplines
- Mentor younger engineers and share expertise
- Lead small teams of engineers and designers
- Travel for site surveys, technical conferences, client meetings, and construction monitoring
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Previous experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings
- Experience with commercial or institutional facilities
- Computer experience using MS Office and relevant software (e.g., Trane TRACE)
- Experience with manufacturer selection software
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license in the location of the position offered
Qualifications
- Significant experience with power generation fluid systems, including steam, condensate, fuel gas, cooling water, compressed air, and similar systems
- Experience with software for detailed fluid analysis or modeling
- Ability to develop from a mechanical or lead engineer to a project engineer and potentially into a project manager or engineering manager
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Skills
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Experience with Trane TRACE or similar software
- Knowledge of manufacturer selection software
