About the role

BR+A Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer in our Charleston, SC office. The ideal candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of Revit and will be responsible for performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations, developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas, editing specifications, understanding fan and pump curves, using the psychrometric chart, coordinating with other disciplines, responding to RFI's, reviewing submittals, understanding work planning, modifying sequences of operations, understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP
  • Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
  • Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
  • Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements
  • Developing air and water flows
  • Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
  • Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
  • Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the work plan
  • Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation
  • Modifying sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
  • Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment
  • Meting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
  • Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects

Requirements

The candidate must be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The ability to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team is necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE License
  • 10-15 years of relevant experience

Skills

Strong knowledge of Revit, excellent organizational and communication skills, positive attitude, result-driven and team-oriented, proactive and collaborative team member, professional conduct and presentation, detail oriented and deadline-driven.
