Mechanical Engineer
About the role
AMETEK SFMS is seeking a highly collaborative problem-solver with a natural curiosity about mechanical and electrical devices to join our team as a Mechanical Engineer in Wilmington, MA. This position specializes in the development of aerospace components, including temperature sensors, speed sensors, air flow sensors, and interconnecting cables. The role involves working within a global, multi-site business unit that designs and manufactures highly engineered sensors and fluid management systems for aerospace applications.
Responsibilities
- Design, manufacture, test, and certify electromechanical sensing devices such as RTDs, thermocouples, speed sensors, and cables.
- Develop new technologies to sustain competitive advantage while collaborating in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Create 3D models using SolidWorks, specifying materials and assembly methods.
- Generate and issue technical documentation, including design reports, FMEAs, test procedures, and test reports.
- Perform structural, thermal, fatigue, and dimensional analyses using hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Review customer and industry specifications to support bid, proposal, and product design processes.
- Integrate design for six sigma, reliability, and manufacturability into product designs while meeting customer performance and schedule objectives.
- Apply expertise in designing for severe vibration and thermal environments.
- Utilize AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and cost reduction, while critically evaluating AI-generated outputs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 7+ years of experience designing electromechanical sensing devices in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, defense, automotive, or medical).
- Proficiency with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with aerospace components and standards (preferred).
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with strong analytical tool proficiency, including FEA.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (version 2020 or later).
- Hands-on capability in a workplace setting.
- Ability to function as an individual contributor, team member, and leader simultaneously.
- Organized, analytical, and adaptable problem-solving skills.
- Strong collaboration and assertiveness with a team-player attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines while adapting to changing priorities.
- Computer skills including Word, Excel, SolidWorks, and familiarity with PLM/PDM software (ARAS Innovator preferred).
- Legal right to work in the U.S. and authorization to access export-controlled information and source code.
Pay
Salary range: $90,000 – $110,000 USD (salaried position). The actual salary offered will be based on experience, skills, qualifications, market considerations, and geographic location.
