About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of next-generation medical device technologies. This position offers the opportunity to drive mechanical design solutions for highly regulated electromechanical products, contributing throughout the product lifecycle from early-stage innovation and feasibility through commercialization and manufacturing transfer. The ideal candidate is a technically strong engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, and can independently lead critical design initiatives while mentoring less experienced team members.

This role operates in a multidisciplinary engineering setting that combines office, laboratory, and prototype development activities. Engineers regularly engage with cross-functional teams, participate in hands-on testing, and utilize modern CAD and product development tools. The environment encourages innovation, technical curiosity, and continuous improvement while maintaining the quality and documentation standards required for medical device development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of mechanical systems and assemblies for advanced medical device products.
  • Transform product requirements into innovative, practical engineering solutions that balance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Create detailed 3D models, component designs, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks.
  • Guide projects through concept generation, prototyping, verification testing, and production readiness.
  • Partner with quality, manufacturing, systems, software, and electrical engineering teams to support successful product development efforts.
  • Evaluate technical risks, identify design improvements, and recommend solutions that support program objectives.
  • Support design verification and validation activities, ensuring product performance aligns with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Contribute expertise in electromechanical integration, component selection, and mechanical system architecture.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to ensure scalable and efficient production processes.
  • Participate in technical reviews, provide design recommendations, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Utilize engineering analysis and sound judgment to resolve challenging mechanical design issues.
  • Develop clear technical reports, design specifications, test protocols, and engineering records.
  • Share technical knowledge across the organization through mentoring, coaching, and peer collaboration.
  • Support ongoing improvements to engineering processes, tools, and development methodologies.
  • Leverage experience with fluid handling, valve technologies, or cryogenic systems when applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience, or equivalent advanced-degree experience.
  • Strong background designing products within regulated engineering environments.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, including complex part modeling, assemblies, and drawing creation.
  • Experience developing electromechanical products from concept through manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated success leading technical workstreams, projects, or major product subsystems.
  • Solid understanding of design verification, prototyping, testing, and product development best practices.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to document technical work clearly and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience working with Class II or Class III medical devices.
  • Knowledge of fluid systems, valve technologies, or cryogenic equipment.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, molding, assembly, and product transfer activities.
  • Experience supporting product development in a regulated industry environment.
  • Prior experience mentoring engineers or providing technical leadership.
  • Working knowledge of risk management and design controls within product development programs.
