Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of electrical and electromechanical products. This role involves providing mechanical design expertise across all stages of product development, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create robust components, ensure accurate documentation, and strengthen U.S. R&D capabilities.

About the role

This position operates within a collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment focused on the design and development of electrical and electromechanical products. You will work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical drafters, and production teams, using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD tools to create and refine mechanical designs. The role involves both desk-based design work and hands-on interaction with prototypes and hardware, including time in lab or workshop areas for assembly, testing, and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and enclosures for electrical and electronic products.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D models and mechanical drawings using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Develop designs for wire routing, cable harnesses, cable assemblies, and internal mechanical layouts.
  • Support prototype development, including hands-on work with hardware, assembly, and evaluation of mechanical designs.
  • Participate in testing and product validation activities to ensure mechanical performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers to ensure proper mechanical integration of electronic components and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to support design for manufacturability (DFM) and smooth transition from development to production.
  • Maintain, update, and organize engineering drawings and documentation with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Support product improvements, engineering changes, and continuous refinement of existing designs.
  • Contribute to product development processes across a growing engineering organization and help expand R&D capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software for modeling and mechanical drafting.
  • Experience designing mechanical enclosures or electromechanical assemblies for electrical or electronic products.
  • Familiarity with cable routing, wiring harnesses, cable harnesses, and cable assembly documentation.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience designing enclosures for electrical or electronic products, including consideration of internal layouts and component integration.
  • Ability to create and interpret detailed engineering drawings and documentation with high accuracy.
  • Hands-on approach and comfort working directly with prototypes and hardware.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative within a growing engineering organization.

Qualifications

  • Experience with sheet metal design and familiarity with sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Experience with plastic components and injection molding for enclosure and component design.
  • Experience supporting products from early development through full production release.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) principles in electromechanical products.
  • Strong attention to detail in both design work and documentation.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Comfort working in an R&D environment focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Interest in contributing to the expansion and maturation of engineering processes and capabilities.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000/yr. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
