Position Summary

Entry level or early-career Mechanical Engineer to support a range of engineering activities for nuclear power projects. We are looking for a motivated recent graduate or early-career candidate with strong fundamentals, communication skills, and the work ethic to grow into greater responsibility over time. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement. You'll spend three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

About the Role

You will be involved in nuclear power plant systems design, including preparation or review of: Modification packages for operating nuclear power plants Functional mechanical drawings and/or drawings for nuclear power plant systems Engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and operation of plant systems Technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment Vendor bid evaluations for plant equipment Studies and options evaluations for modifications to operating nuclear power plants

Responsibilities

  • Visit client office and/or plant site locations to interface with the client and make presentations related to engineering tasks and status
  • Lead engineering project teams

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • A minimum of 1 year of engineering experience or an MS degree
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with peers, project managers, and clients
  • Willingness to work out of the Sargent & Lundy office in Farmington Hills, Michigan
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to take ownership of assigned work
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Eagerness to grow in a client-facing role including work on-site at client facility

Desirable Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and designation as an Engineer in Training
  • Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to project design
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for mechanical engineering calculations
  • Coursework or exposure in power engineering, turbomachinery, and/or energy conversion
