Job Summary
A Mechanical Engineer II plays a critical role in the design and execution of automated material handling systems. In this position, you will apply your engineering skills to design, analyze, and support complex systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams. You will be responsible for key project deliverables from concept through integration, including directly interfacing with external groups such as vendors, customers, and end users.
Qualification, Education, And Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- 2-5 years of proven experience in mechanical engineering (preferably in material handling or industrial automation).
- Working knowledge of system integration technologies including conveyors, packaging equipment, or automated storage systems.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with 3D modelling tools a plus.
- Solid understanding of core engineering concepts: Statics, Dynamics, GD&T.
- Familiar with equipment specification and vendor collaboration.
- Proficient with MS Office suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project.
- Demonstrated ability to manage components of projects independently.
- Effective communicator with experience presenting ideas and solutions.
- Comfortable working in a team environment with cross-discipline collaboration.
- Ability to travel up to 30% to support project implementation and site activities.
Essential Job Functions
- Aid in creating mechanical layouts and drawings under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Design and engineer sub-systems within larger material handling projects.
- Create and maintain mechanical drawings, layouts, and technical documentation.
- Develop material flow diagrams and support equipment selection and system functionality descriptions.
- Assist in customer meetings and present design concepts.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and deliverable tracking.
- Coordinate with vendors for equipment selection, ordering, and documentation.
- Support site installations and commissioning activities with minimal supervision.
- Aid in troubleshooting and technical problem-solving.
- Contribute to proposal development by supporting estimation, technical write-ups, and layout creation.
- Suggest and implement improvements to tools, standards, and processes.
- Mentor entry-level engineers and interns as needed.
- Maintain high standards of quality, accuracy, and professionalism in all deliverables.
- Continuously grow technical knowledge through training and industry research.
Working Conditions
- Although this is a full-time, Exempt position (40 hours per week), extended hours and evenings may be required based on client needs.
- Most tasks, projects, and communication with clients, team members, and directors will be completed using a telephone, microphone, computer, and video technology.
