About the role

The Mechanical Drafter is responsible for multiple documentation generation and management through their entire lifecycle from creation through obsolescence. This will include, but not be limited to, legacy drawings and designs conversion to the new standards and procedures as well as generation of new designs and drawings for New Product Development using company CAD Software SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Conversion of legacy drawings and designs (generated on paper or ACAD) to the new company standards and procedures using company CAD SolidWorks software.
  • Generate new designs and drawings for New Product Development using company CAD Software SolidWorks.
  • Release engineering documentation pertaining to ECR/ECN/DCN and NPD processes into the organization EDM and MRP (Infor) systems, storage databases or physical files.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to expedite document approval through the specific workflows (ECR, ECN, DCN) and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper workflows are followed.
  • Manage engineering documentation (drawings, reports, specifications, redlines, as-builts) through the entire lifecycle ensuring version control, accuracy, and compliance with quality standards (ISO/QMS/Regulatory Requirements) so that only approved revisions are used in production.
  • Administer vendor and customer documentation, ensuring timely receipt, indexing, and integration into project databases and other storage locations.
  • Implement in company MRP system (Infor) new part numbers as required.
  • Develop, organize, maintain, process and track engineering documentation and project deliverables through storage locations, logs and trackers.
  • Support company internal and external audits and inventory control activities.
  • Generate and distribute performance metrics reports (e.g., overdue items, document status) for management and project stakeholders.
  • Safeguard intellectual property and maintain the integrity of engineering records.
  • Perform other related tasks to achieve engineering department success as requested.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience as a draftsperson in a related field; experience with fluid power or fluid control systems is a plus.
  • Familiar with ASME Y14 series and/or other drafting standards.
  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent preferred but not required; other formal drafting training will be considered.
  • Able to read technical documentation like drawings, BOMs, parts lists, catalogs, markups, specifications.
  • Experience with EDM and MRP (Infor or equivalent) processes, configuration management, document control, auditing and cross-functional interface.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks (minimum 5 years) and ACAD required.
  • Proficient in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CAD file management, Adobe Acrobat (PDF) editing.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Position is primarily in the office setting.
  • Ability to move around the plant as required.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds as required.
  • Noise environment can be loud at times.
  • Must be able to wear proper PPE.
