Mechanical Designer-Tank and Skid
About the role
As our Mechanical Designer, you will report to the Director of Operations. Your responsibilities include providing detailed mechanical drawings and bill of materials for customer approval and shop fabrication, demonstrating a strong aptitude for engineering work, and collaborating with Process Engineers to create 3D system models based on customer specifications.
Responsibilities
- Collects engineer's and customer's specifications and creates accurate mechanical drawings with the appropriate level of detail by following departmental drawing standards.
- Performs proficient minor load calculations.
- Assumes the responsibility of the lead designer on larger complex projects.
- Completes and submits customer approval drawings on projects and provides correspondence to customers regarding approval drawings.
- Contacts the customer and/or project manager with questions related to drawings.
- Completes and leads design reviews with internal and external customers to provide an accurate representation of the equipment being fabricated.
- Completes a bill of materials for the project.
- Loads material for designs in purchasing software.
- Maintains and initiates additional work authorizations for appropriate drawing changes.
- Provides support when needed for material requisitions, additional work authorization, estimates, and project management.
- Collaborates with Process Engineers to create process piping 3D system models based on customer specifications and Process and Instrument Diagrams (PID's).
- Develops and verifies fabrication, general arrangement, base frame assembly, construction, weld map, slope, and heat map drawings as well as piping bill of materials.
- Identifies BPE (Pharmaceutical grade) requirements along with sanitary and good manufacturing practices.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience with weld symbols and weld processes.
- Meet or exceed project deadlines and budgets.
- Participate in the Team Improvement Board (TIB) process by attending daily huddles.
- Understand data collected, develop solutions to issues encountered, and focus on the reduction of the eight (8) forms of wastes.
- Participate in improvement projects.
- Present the team's TIB during the GEMBA walk representing the Systems Design Team's plans and improvements.
Qualifications
- An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in mechanical or architectural design, as well as 1-3 years of mechanical design experience is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor software and advanced knowledge of 3D solids, which highly utilize UCS orientations, for the completion of required drawings, as well as demonstrating a strong aptitude for engineering work.
- A thorough understanding and ability to use all Microsoft software applications is required.
- Tank and Vessel design as well as BPE/ASME experience desired, but not required for this position.
Skills
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor software.
- Advanced knowledge of 3D solids, utilizing UCS orientations.
