Responsibilities
- Apply mechanical engineering principles, industry standards, and best practices to the planning, design, and execution of building systems projects.
- Aid in the design and development of facility systems, including plumbing, medical gas, and fire protection systems.
- Create construction documents using Autodesk Revit and other CAD/BIM software in accordance with company and industry standards.
- Interpret and apply applicable building codes, energy codes, accessibility requirements, and industry standards to engineering designs.
- Obtain and assemble data to complete engineering designs.
- Visit job sites prior to, during, and following design, as necessary.
- Represent engineering on construction sites, ensuring construction compliance with design specifications and advising on engineering corrections.
- Research and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet project requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and designers to implement operating procedures, troubleshoot system malfunctions, provide technical guidance, and resolve complex or unusual technical challenges and project developments.
- Conduct research that analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems.
- Research and analyze design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs and applications.
- Aid in designing integrated mechanical or alternative systems to reduce water consumption and improve energy efficiency.
- Perform plumbing calculations to determine loads and size equipment.
- Perform construction assistance in the form of responding to contractor requests for information, reviewing shop drawings, and performing construction site field observations reports and preparing punch lists during various stages of construction.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of relevant experience.
- Experience designing healthcare, commercial, education, or institutional facilities is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Effectively work with multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Experience with plumbing and fire suppression sizing requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, client service and communications skills.
- Familiarity with ASPE/NFPA/IBC/FBC criteria requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration a plus.
- Experience with fire protection design and hydraulic calculation software (such as HASS, AutoSPRINK, or equivalent) a plus.
