Mechanical Designer – Engine & Transmission Components

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain 3D models and drawings of automotive powertrain components and sub-assemblies using CAD software.
• Create models/drawings/stacks/exploded views from supplied information such as sketches, marked prints, layouts and other information supplied by Product Engineers.
• Design components for a variety of different manufacturing processes including casting, stamping, powdered metal, machine turned components and molded plastic.
• Aid in the development and maintenance of customer and internal guide files, drafting standards, work instructions, and other tools intended to enhance the efficiency and abilities of the Design Group.
• Determine critical dimension and tolerance information by working with engineering personnel. Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Generate drawings in accordance with industry design standards (ANSI, ISO etc).
• Complete assigned tasks within the established project timelines.
• Brainstorm new design concepts and assist in the creation and management of prototype BOM’s.
• Provide a smooth exchange of ideas and information between supervisor, engineers, and co-workers.

Requirements

• Minimum of an associate’s degree in design/drafting is required.
• NX and/or Catia V5 design experience (modelling/detailing proficiency req’d).
• TeamCenter data management experience a plus.
• Being a team player and having good organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines is required.
• Experience in automotive industry a plus.
• Interpersonal relations require professional verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage technical details.
• Proficient with Microsoft office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Experience and/or training in DFM/DFA is preferred.
• Able to read and understand design drawings, layouts, stack-ups, verbal design instructions is required.
