Mechanical Designer - Contract

About the role

Sanmina Houston is seeking a temporary Mechanical Designer/Drafter for an immediate short-term project. The role supports the Project Engineer in delivering detailed layouts to achieve a workable design prototype or assembly, primarily related to Wireline, MWD type instruments, or downhole tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide design layouts for mechanical parts and assemblies
• Detail design of mechanical piece parts and assemblies
• Specify mechanical tolerances and determine stack-up for proper assembly
• Maintain documents engineering change status
• Prepare and update assemblies and BOMs
• Provide design clarifications to machining vendors

Requirements

• Two-year Mechanical drafting or technical degree
• 2–5 years of experience with SolidWorks (advanced experience in 3D modeling, assembly design, and standard drawing creation)
• Practical expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5), including applying geometric symbols and control frames to meet manufacturing requirements
• Knowledge of AutoCAD 14 (familiarity is a plus)
• Understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Standards and GD&T practices
• Hands-on exposure to mechanical assemblies and repair
• Familiarity with Machinery’s Handbook standard design practices
• 5+ years of related mechanical design and drafting experience
• Experience with downhole tools and machine parts design is a plus
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident (ITAR facility requirement)
