Mechanical Designer

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Designer, with some supervision from the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, will provide or extend mechanical systems design for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities as requested by the client. This role involves developing construction drawings and specifications that address the installation, integration, interconnection, and control of mechanical components within standard building codes. The Senior Mechanical Designer will work independently on smaller, less complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Review and/or establish project scope, mechanical budget, necessary constraints, and design approach with the Project Manager and/or client, with some assistance.
• Perform calculations and energy models; formulate design and layout of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection.
• Create engineering documents using computer-aided design (CAD) technology, such as Autodesk (Revit and AutoCAD), or manually with support from junior staff.
• Edit or draft project specifications.
• Conduct field measuring and checking at construction sites.
• Maintain working knowledge of the latest building codes and standards used in the industry.
• Review drawings for omissions, errors, overall quality, content accuracy, and compliance with standards and codes.
• Review product submittals for design content and specify actions to reach specification compliance.
• Maintain an organized project file containing calculations, correspondence, and reference materials.
• Prepare project file updates, transmittals, letters, reports, and requests for reproduction services.
• Select and source equipment with assistance.
• Coordinate projects with other disciplines.
• Communicate scope changes to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering and Project Manager.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• LEED Accredited Professional preferred.
• 10+ years of related experience in the mechanical engineering field (HVAC/building systems).

Skills

• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Trane Trace 700 or other building energy calculation software, and Bluebeam.
• Knowledge of BIM 360 and Carrier HAP is a bonus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong attention to detail.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position is $75,000.00 to $115,000.00. Individual pay is based on factors such as relevant experience, job-related skills, education, and training.
