About the project
We're working with an AI startup, placing a small group of elite mechanical engineers on a part-time consulting basis. The client is building the gold-standard benchmark for how AI handles real mechanical engineering work.
The Role
You will work independently as a part-time contractor, completing engineering design tasks remotely on your own schedule. Minimum commitment is 8 hours per week, with up to 20+ hours available for the right candidate.
What You'll Do
- Perform worst-case tolerance stack-ups by hand across mechanical assemblies
- Apply first-order hand calculations to validate structural and mechanical designs
- Work through the engineering design process for propulsion, powertrain, structural, and control systems
- Document your engineering reasoning clearly — the quality of your thinking is the product
- Collaborate asynchronously with the client team
What We're Looking For
- Must-have:
- US-based
- 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience
- Experience performing worst-case tolerance stack-ups by hand
- Proficiency in Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or CATIA
- Strong first-principles engineering thinking and hand calculation skills
- GD&T proficiency (ASME Y14.5)
- Background at a high-performance engineering organisation
- Nice to have:
- FEM experience (ANSYS Mechanical, Siemens Simcenter 3D)
- DFM/DFA experience
- Interest in AI and its application to engineering
Engagement Details
- Rate: Up to $100/hr
- Hrs: 8–20+ hrs/week, flexible around your current role
- Duration: Minimum 4 weeks, with a clear path to ongoing work
- Location: Fully remote (US)
