Mechanical Design Engineer - Onsite SJC (6219)
We are looking for highly motivated mechanical design engineers who can work independently or under the supervision of a Technical Leader or manager to carry out design for networking products from concept to production. These opportunities are 100% onsite in San Jose, CA.
About the Role
Duration: 8/3/2026 to 8/2/2027, contingent upon performance and client budget. Pay rate: $45/hr with full benefits. We are only considering direct W2 candidates at this time; sponsorship is unavailable.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver next-generation networking systems (modular and fixed chassis) and cards that meet customer requirements.
- Design and develop innovative mechanical solutions using sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast that meet EMI, safety, and compliance requirements.
- Develop 3D CAD models using Creo or NX.
- Create detailed drawings by applying Geometric Tolerancing and Dimensioning (GD&T) principles.
- Perform detailed 2D tolerance analysis for complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
- Assist with resolution of design-related issues impacting field or manufacturing by collaborating with manufacturing teams and suppliers, developing mitigation plans, and keeping management informed.
- Exchange PCB design IDF files with the ECAD/hardware design team and address placement and mechanical integrity concerns.
- Host peer and cross-functional team reviews of your design.
- Attend regular internal practice community meetings and collaborate with your itD practice team on industry thought leadership.
- Complete client case studies and learning material (blogs, media material).
- Build material to contribute to the Digital Transformation practice.
- Attend internal itD networking events (in person and virtual).
- Work with leadership on career fast-track opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 7+ years of experience designing electronic enclosures.
- Experience with 3D MCAD tools (Creo/NX).
- Experience with sheet metal design for mid to high volumes.
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal, plastic, and die-cast tooling.
Preferred Skills
- Relevant experience in the mechanical design of computer/network equipment designed to operate in data centers.
- Experience designing sheet-metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines.
- Design and manufacturing of fixtures for experiments, components for prototypes, etc.
