Mechanical Design Engineer - Composites

About the role

The purpose of this position is for creating, updating, and integrating composite related products used on various APM platform vehicles and related maintenance vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and Digital Mock-Up (DMU) data for composite components and assemblies.
  • Design and validate composite parts, ensuring compliance with technical, quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Perform detailed mechanical design activities, including stack-up analysis, clash detection, and interface management.
  • Support manufacturing, industrialization, and suppliers throughout development, production ramp-up, and qualification phases.
  • Assess supplier proposals and costs, contribute to sourcing strategy, and participate in supplier audits and onboarding.
  • Lead and support R&D initiatives to develop innovative composite solutions.
  • Resolve technical issues related to composite parts and provide engineering support to project teams and customers.
  • Manage engineering deliverables, design reviews, change requests, CAD quality, and BOMs while ensuring project milestones and customer requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
  • 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Design/Engineering within an industrial environment.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with composite materials, preferably fiberglass composites; broader materials engineering expertise will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design tools (CATIA V5 preferred; SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent accepted).
  • Familiarity with Digital Mock-Up (DMU) environments, 3D integration, and interface management.
  • Experience in rail, automotive, aerospace, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate, implement, and manage engineering change requests.
  • Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.
