Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) is a world leader in remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars. They are seeking mechanical engineers to join their team in designing remote piloted aircraft. The successful candidate will be rewarded with the satisfaction of seeing their design go from concept to realization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the packaging design of airborne electronics.
  • Ensure that the electronics will survive in harsh environments and meet defined requirements.
  • Work closely with manufacturing to achieve high yield rates in production.
  • Use analysis to reduce risk before designs go to test.
  • Present designs to peers, management, and stakeholders for feedback.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and obligations.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution with progressive engineering experience.
  • Four or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, two or more years with a master’s degree.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience applying these concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task or project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; represent the organization as a prime technical contact and lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering analysis, including hand calculations and finite element analysis (ANSYS or similar).
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.
