Mechanical Design Engineer

This position supports the space program located in Cape Canaveral, FL.

About the role

Engineers & Designers will work closely with MGSE engineers to provide components or portions of system designs, including handling, lifting, test, assembly, and transportation of mechanical and electrical components. The selected candidate will be responsible for engineering documentation, drawing/Computer Aided Design (CAD) maintenance and verification, and support of cross-discipline product development.

Responsibilities

• Use CREO to develop plans, drawings, models, revise and initiate formats for parts, assemblies, and installation engineering.
• Create new parts, drawings, BOMs, assemblies, simplified reps, shrink-wraps.
• Support team members with design knowledge.
• Complete layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices (ASME Y14.5).
• Prepare complete production detail drawings.
• Complete design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 3+ years of recent and related work experience.
• Professional experience using a 3D CAD system (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
• Experience with machine tool design or tool modification.
• Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• US Citizenship (required for security clearance).
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS).
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
• Must be organized with good time management skills and able to work outside normal schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Work Environment

• Generally an office environment, but may involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time).
• May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
• Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
• Position is located onsite in Cape Canaveral, FL; some travel may be required.
• Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
