Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.

Responsibilities

• Custom Machine Design: Design custom automation machinery, robotic tooling, fixtures, and structural frames from concept to completion.
• CAD Modeling & Detailing: Utilize Autodesk Inventor to create robust 3D models, detailed 2D manufacturing drawings, and accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Adapt & Pivot: Transition smoothly between high-level conceptual engineering and heads-down, high-volume CAD detailing/drafting as project loads dictate.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with controls engineers, project managers, and the assembly floor to troubleshoot and optimize designs.
• Component Selection: Size and specify pneumatic components, motors, actuators, bearings, and commercial off-the-shelf hardware.
• Hands-On Assembly Support: Collaborate directly with the assembly and build teams, troubleshooting prototypes and verifying that digital designs translate flawlessly to the physical build.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong understanding of basic mechanical design principles
• 2 years of experience in automation design (Preferred)
• Hands-on experience in the manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly of automation machinery
• Proficiency in CAD software (solid works and creo)
• Self-driven and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Well-rounded, personable, and able to collaborate effectively with teams

Pay & Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100,000.00 - $150,000.00/yr. Excellent medical, dental, and vision benefits along with 401(k) and additional work / Life balance benefits. Strong company culture.
