Job Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and management of all mechanical construction activities on assigned projects.
- Develop and execute comprehensive construction plans that support project goals, contract requirements, and schedule milestones.
- Lead and manage General Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, and craft labor across multiple disciplines.
- Direct construction activities involving: Structural steel erection, Mechanical equipment installation and precision alignment, Piping fabrication, installation, welding, and testing, Boilermaker and HRSG construction activities, Electrical installation and system integration, Crane and rigging operations.
- Ensure seamless coordination between construction disciplines to optimize workflow, minimize disruptions, and maintain project momentum.
- Establish construction priorities and resource allocations to support critical path activities and project milestones.
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Collaborate with Project Management and Project Controls teams to develop and maintain integrated construction schedules.
- Oversee construction sequencing from foundations and steel erection through mechanical completion and turnover.
- Lead short- and long-range planning efforts, including look-ahead schedules, manpower forecasts, and resource planning.
- Monitor construction progress and implement recovery plans when necessary to mitigate schedule impacts.
- Forecast labor, equipment, material, and productivity requirements to support project execution.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, efficiency, and schedule performance.
Mechanical Systems Oversight
- Provide management oversight for the installation, testing, and commissioning support of: Structural steel systems, Gas turbine and major rotating equipment installations, Mechanical equipment setting and precision alignment, Process, utility, and balance-of-plant piping systems, HRSGs, SCR systems, stacks, ductwork, and pressure parts, Welding, NDE, hydrostatic testing, and pneumatic testing activities, Electrical interfaces supporting mechanical systems, Crane and heavy-lift operations, Mechanical completion and turnover activities, Startup and commissioning support functions.
Safety Leadership
- Champion a proactive safety culture and ensure strict compliance with OSHA, company, client, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Lead safety initiatives, audits, incident investigations, and corrective action programs.
- Promote effective pre-task planning, job hazard analyses, and risk assessments throughout all construction activities.
- Ensure accountability for safety performance at every level of the field organization.
- Foster an environment where safety remains the highest priority while maintaining project execution objectives.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all construction activities meet project specifications, contract requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Oversee quality control programs covering: Structural steel installation, Equipment alignment and tolerances, Welding and NDE activities, Pressure testing requirements, Mechanical completion documentation, Electrical interface requirements.
- Coordinate closely with Quality Assurance and Quality Control teams to resolve deficiencies and maintain quality performance.
Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary construction representative for mechanical execution with clients, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, OEM representatives, and commissioning personnel.
- Interface regularly with project executives, project managers, engineering teams, and procurement groups regarding project performance and execution strategy.
- Facilitate the resolution of constructability issues, RFIs, schedule conflicts, labor challenges, and material constraints.
- Support project reporting, forecasting, and executive-level reviews.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout all phases of construction.
Commissioning & Project Closeout
- Lead mechanical completion and turnover planning across all systems and disciplines.
- Coordinate punch-list management, system walkdowns, and closeout activities.
- Ensure readiness for commissioning activities including: Hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, Flushing and cleaning operations, Equipment rotation and operational checks, Start-up readiness reviews, Steam blow preparation and execution support, Initial energization activities.
- Partner with commissioning and startup teams to ensure efficient system turnover and operational readiness.
- Support project closeout, final documentation, and owner turnover requirements.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Mentor, develop, and evaluate General Superintendents, Superintendents, Foremen, and emerging construction leaders.
- Promote workforce development, succession planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish performance expectations and drive accountability throughout the construction organization.
- Support recruiting, staffing, and workforce planning efforts across multiple projects.
