About the role

As a Mechanical CAD Designer at Thales Alenia Space, you will perform a subset of all the hardware engineering activities applicable to Mechanical Engineering. This includes analyzing mechanical needs, describing mechanical functions, requirements, and development plans, elaborating data packages for production, collaborating with production and procurement, monitoring and planning mechanical activities, proposing and justifying technical choices, and ensuring designs comply with target costs and lead times.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse the mechanical needs of various projects using advanced studies, simulations, mock-ups, models, and prototypes.
  • Describe the mechanical functions, requirements, and development plan for assigned projects.
  • Create data packages necessary for production.
  • Collaborate with production and procurement teams to develop cost-effective, manufacturable mechanical design solutions.
  • Monitor and plan mechanical activities to track technical progress.
  • Propose and justify technical, technological, and methodological choices aligned with the approved mechanical architecture and design.
  • Maintain compliance with designs against target costs and lead times.

Requirements

  • Graduated with a Master of Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant field from University.
  • Significant experience in hardware development, particularly in mechanical engineering.
  • A passion for focusing on the mechanical field, implementing it in solutions, and staying updated with industry trends and concerns.
  • A strong team-player who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • A clear understanding of organizational goals and a customer-oriented mindset.
  • A rigorous and analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

Qualifications

  • A strong technical background in mathematics, science, and computer science, with a deep knowledge of mechanical laws, norms, and standards.
  • Proficiency in Mechanical design tools such as DS Catia, DS Solidworks, DS Smarteam, PTC Creo, PTC PDMLink, Siemens NX, and Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Expertise in CAD modeling, drawings, bill of materials, and data management.
  • Experience with Mechanical simulation tools like Ansys Mechanical, DS Abaqus, DS Dymola, and MSC Nastran.
  • Skills in structural analysis including static, modal analysis, shocks, vibrations, and design optimization.
  • The ability to conduct mechanical tests such as shocks and vibration tests and manage qualification procedures.

  • Able to multitask effectively to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
