About the role

The Asphalt Plant Mechanic is responsible for maintaining equipment in the plant in a safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant condition. This includes performing emergency/unscheduled repairs, assisting operators with complex repairs, completing preventive maintenance tasks, and troubleshooting equipment issues.

Responsibilities

  • Must be available and respond to trouble calls on weekends and after hours.
  • Performs emergency/unscheduled repairs and scheduled maintenance repairs during machine service.
  • Assists operators with more complicated repairs and adjustments requiring precision skills.
  • Completes all reports and transactions required to document work in SAP.
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks and inspections as required.
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required work.
  • Fabricates and welds as needed to specifications.
  • Performs building maintenance as needed (lights, exhaust fans, painting, etc.).
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues by analyzing problems and identifying root causes.
  • Repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots pumps, valves, pipes, burners, filter systems, agitators, blowers, check valves, PRDs, pipe insulation, steam traps, and fans.
  • Uses hand tools, special tools, and test equipment accurately and safely.
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate shop equipment.
  • Reviews and creates job hazard analyses.
  • Provides technical and operational support as needed.
  • Follows oral and written communication instructions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate degree preferred.
  • Qualified Lift Truck / Bobcat Operator.
  • Knowledge of mechanical repairs, welding, electrical including PLC and electronic drives, fabrication, plumbing, etc.
  • Ability to take precision measurements.
  • Knowledge of industrial maintenance craft skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (SAP, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures.
  • Self-starter, motivated, and goal-oriented. Able to demonstrate good leadership skills, risk management ability, and high stress tolerance.

Physical Demands

  • Full range of motion: Full, some bending, lifting, and standing for 8–12 hour period.
  • Lifting capacity: Must be capable of lifting minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Sitting/Standing/Climbing: Standing for 12 hours daily, and moving up and down stairs and working at elevated heights.
