Mechanic Specialist
Overview
The Mechanic Specialist plays a key role in executing mechanical applications and maintaining equipment related to aquatic environments. This position is essential for ensuring efficient operations and compliance with regulatory standards while contributing to the success of aquatic management projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate mechanical aquatic weed control and other heavy equipment in order to achieve project goals, including weed control, sediment removal, and habitat restoration.
- Operate specialized machinery and watercraft such as boats, aquatic weed harvesters, hydro-rakes, forklifts, excavators, skid-steer loaders, etc.
- Collaborate with project teams to plan and execute mechanical aquatic vegetation control strategies according to project requirements and environmental regulations.
- Identify aquatic plant species and monitor their growth patterns to inform control measures.
- Assist in the mobilization and demobilization of heavy equipment for contracted projects. Ensure proper staging and implementation of environmental control measures as per project and permit specifications.
- Maintain accurate project records, including equipment operation logs, spoils productivity metrics, and project completion projections.
- Provide training and guidance to team members on the safe and effective operation of aquatic machinery.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment (i.e. engine oil changes, hydraulic fluid flushes, greasing, etc.).
- Communicate effectively with project coordinators, team members, and clients to facilitate smooth project execution.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: HS Diploma, a degree or certificate in maintenance of machinery preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in operating and maintaining aquatic machinery and applications.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in on-water equipment operations and safety protocols.
- Strong heavy equipment operation experience with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
- Knowledge of aquatic plant species identification and control methods is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic and challenging aquatic environments.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Positive attitude, adaptability, and a willingness to learn and embrace new technologies and techniques.
