This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position requiring a minimum of 30 hours per week to maintain benefits eligibility, with an average of 40 hours per week and occasional overtime. Flexibility to work varying hours, including nights and weekends, is required. Overnight travel is not needed.

About the Role

The Mechanic is responsible for performing regular inspections, routine maintenance, and repairs on company tractors and trailers in compliance with Federal and State regulations, working alongside other mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to maintenance, shop rules, and safety regulations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with co-workers and drivers.
  • Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors and assigned mechanics.
  • Follow checklists to inspect critical components such as belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturer performance specifications.
  • Confer with drivers to diagnose vehicle problems and discuss work to be performed.
  • Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics on tractors, trailers, and shop equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on tractors and trailers.
  • Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain diesel equipment.
  • Repair and troubleshoot electrical, cooling, and hydraulic systems on equipment.
  • Perform minor fabrication repairs as needed.
  • Make general repairs and adjustments on vehicles in accordance with company and manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform entry-level mechanic duties, including fluid changes, basic diagnostics, minor repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Read and comprehend manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain and repair shop equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Participate in parts inventory, company training programs, safety events, and meetings as requested.
  • Assist in training and developing new and less experienced mechanics.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of six years of experience as a diesel mechanic.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with MIG and TIG welding fabrication.
  • Must own and maintain adequate hand tools.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • This position is safety-sensitive and requires passing a 5-panel drug test, including marijuana.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) is preferred but not required.
  • Must maintain an active driver’s license for periodic driving of non-CDL commercial vehicles; report any changes in license status to supervisor immediately.

Pay

$30.00 per hour.
