Mechanic III
About the role
This role is responsible for performing a variety of skilled mechanic work to set up gummy/packaging operation production equipment, preventative maintenance, and complex mechanical and facilities repair. It involves troubleshooting and repairing the most complex mechanical, electrical, and facilities malfunctions. The focus is on the new gummy operation, including the kitchen, mogul, conditioning tunnels, starch conditioning equipment, packaging line, and CIP system.
Responsibilities
- Uses all necessary hand tools, portable power tools, machine tools, electrical/diagnostic equipment, programming understanding, fabricating equipment, and material handling equipment to support and make repairs to all gummy/packaging equipment which may include; facilities and equipment such as motors, pumps, conveyor belts, fans, etc.
- Examines equipment to diagnose problems; disassembles machines and repairs/replaces broken parts; constructs new parts;
- Adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
- Helps develop a detailed, preventative maintenance program on all gummy/packaging related equipment on both mechanical and electrical equipment. This includes daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections and lubricating of all moving parts.
- Performs comprehensive preventive maintenance on all gummy equipment and identifies a predictive maintenance program to improve overall reliability of the equipment.
- Supports and completes production run set-ups and changeovers on all gummy operations kitchen/mogul/packaging equipment as scheduled.
- Accomplishes special projects including participating in the planning and design, and then making new installations, modifications, and fabrications for gummy/packaging equipment.
- Responsible for the overhauls/rebuilds on all gummy/packaging related equipment.
- Develops and maintains knowledge ranging from proficient to extensive on all gummy/packaging related equipment in the kitchen/mogul/packaging line. This includes all industrial equipment used by Pharmavite.
- Reviews maintenance manuals for all gummy/packaging equipment when troubleshooting a problem or to learn how to repair something. Identifies needed parts and orders them, within approval limits, as necessary.
- Involves in Continuous Improvement teams and participates in initiating projects related to gummy operation to improve efficiency and reliability of the equipment.
- Develops training programs for all Mechanic I & II for gummy/packaging Maintenance program to ensure technical knowledge is developed in all Mechanic III positions on gummy equipment.
- Plans complex and long-term projects, including materials and resource planning.
- Uses computerized maintenance management system to access information.
- Performs duties in compliance with standard operating and safety procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Requires a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in Technical/Maintenance positions in a production environment. Skills that range from proficient to extensive in the setup, repair, and troubleshooting in industrial maintenance activities are included in the following categories: mechanical, industrial electricity, and fabrication (machining, welding, etc.). Demonstrated knowledge in administrative and electronics categories. High skill level in troubleshooting and, where no procedures exist, creating new methods to make repairs. Demonstrated knowledge of the Windows operating system and software applications (i.e., spreadsheets or databases). Fluent English skills to read/understand complex maintenance manuals, safety procedures, research technical publications for information, communicate with supervisors and others, and maintain routine records.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Technology courses preferred.
- Certification: Technical certification preferred or technical training at a Technical School.

Physical Requirements
- Stand/walk and perform physical labor for most of the working shift.
- Pull, push, squat, etc. to accomplish repairs.
- Intermittently lift loads of up to 50 pounds.
Environmental Factors
- Intermittent exposure to noise levels loud enough to require the use of hearing protection.
- Warm or cold temperature levels, fumes, vibration, dust, etc. sufficient to cause minor discomfort.
