Mechanic II

About the role

Performs skilled maintenance and operational activities in assigned area, providing technical knowledge regarding assigned functions and ensuring proper procedures are followed and service quality levels are maintained. Subject to 24-hour recall for overtime, including during emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair school bus units, fleet vehicles, and other public works equipment.
• Utilize diagnostic equipment to determine repair needs.
• Maintain and/or repair shop areas and fuel station.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, repair, install, and/or maintain vehicles, equipment, tools, facility, and workspaces.
• Review and monitor supply and material needs; initiate supply requests; load and deliver materials as required.
• Prepare and/or review various documents and work orders; complete activity logs or reports and maintain records of vehicle maintenance.
• Contribute to the overall success of Vehicle Maintenance by performing other essential duties as assigned.
• Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

• Skilled maintenance and operations techniques and practices of assigned area.
• Utility vehicle operation techniques.
• Equipment, tools, and materials of assigned area.
• Occupational hazards and related safety precautions and practices.
• Customer service principles.
• Mathematical concepts.
• Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
• Modern office technology and equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Commercial Driver's License (School Bus and Passenger Endorsements preferred).

• Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, travel, and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment.
