About the Role
Mechanics play an important role in ensuring proper performance, safety and reliability of vehicles and ground service equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled preventative maintenance, inspections, and mechanical troubleshooting on engines, transmissions, suspensions, braking, and automotive electrical systems.
- Utilize diagnostic tools, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex electrical and hydraulic issues within established timeframes.
- Log work orders, track parts usage, manage inventory ordering, and maintain records using Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS).
- Partner with station management and team members to ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, safety practices, site audits, and environmental laws.
- Conduct regular spot checks on tools and equipment, maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work facility at all times.
- Maintain daily communication regarding equipment status and remain prepared for off-shift response based on weather forecasts and operational needs.
- May train, supervise, and provide feedback on tasks performed in relation to the position.
- Follow any other job-related instructions and perform any other job-related duties as requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 18, and fluency in reading, writing, and verbally directing in English.
- Strong knowledge of diesel-powered machinery, ground service equipment, fluid types, and specialized diagnostic testing tools (scanners, meters, photo tachometer).
- Hands-on mechanical skills encompassing basic engine, transmission, driveline, suspension, brake, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.
- Must own a basic set of mechanics tools, including sockets/wrenches up to 1 inch in size and up to 1/2-inch drive.
- Basic to intermediate computer literacy with effective time management to handle multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with clients and staff while maintaining complete confidentiality.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all security clearances required by Transport Canada, TSA, and/or local Airport Authorities.
- Ability to pass pre-employment background screenings.
Work Environment
- Physically strenuous environment with prolonged periods of standing.
- Direct exposure to outdoor weather, varying temperatures, humidity, unpleasant odors, and heavy moving machinery.
- Noise levels in the working environment can be excessive at times.
Physical Demands
- General Mobility: Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, and using hands to handle tools.
- Lifting & Heights: Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to or in excess of 100 pounds and work at heights exceeding 20 feet.
- Sensory Readiness: Must possess clear speech and efficient hearing capabilities.
Schedule
Full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Position requires some travel (domestic and/or international), possibly on short notice, to meet immediate operational needs.
Pay
$30 - $40 per hour.
