Mechanic I (Heavy Truck)

About the Role
The Heavy Truck Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance and routine mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs on company assets, including all DOT equipment. This position requires strong communication and time management skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Performs preventative maintenance on all DOT equipment according to established guidelines and time frames.
- Keeps accurate and detailed records of failures and repairs in Computerized Maintenance Management System.
- Acts as an assistant to more senior Mechanics on larger jobs.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses routine problems or recurring malfunctions of company assets and chooses course of action.
- Consults with supervisor to ensure accuracy of diagnosis and approval for work.
- Completes troubleshooting repairs and/or modifications work on equipment.
- Performs daily inspections of tools and equipment used.
- Ensures cleanliness of hand tools, equipment and parts.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; minimum five years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Basic knowledge of computer use and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of CMMS software is a plus.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver License.
- DOT License is a plus.
