Mechanic I (Heavy Equipment)

Responsibilities

  • Performs all necessary preventative maintenance on heavy equipment according to established guidelines and time frames.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed records of failures and repairs in Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Identifies and orders parts necessary to complete repairs and routine maintenance.
  • Performs complex repairs on equipment. Replaces parts and equipment as necessary.
  • Assists lower level Mechanics in completing work assignments as necessary.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses all problems with yellow iron equipment. Completes troubleshooting repairs and/or modifications work on equipment.
  • Performs daily inspections of tools and equipment used. Ensures cleanliness of hand tools, equipment and parts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); minimum five years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Basic knowledge of computer use and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of CMMS software is a plus. Fleet Management Software is a plus.
