Mechanic I
About the role
This position is an entry-level training and development position. It involves performing various tasks such as preventative maintenance service on tractors and trailers, performing light repairs and minor electrical repairs, pressure testing and diagnosing coolant systems, checking alignments and diagnosing problems, driving or being trained to drive tractors and/or tractor-trailer combinations, checking and diagnosing electrical systems, reading preventative maintenance lists, keeping current on preventative maintenance due, performing light repairs on driver write-ups and fuel island repairs, working fuel islands as needed, cleaning shop areas as needed, maintaining fleet tires, complying with company work and safety rules, effectively communicating both written and orally with supervisor and peers, following directions, working independently and in a team environment, obtaining a set of tools and tool storage within 3 months of date of hire, being trained and certified to operate any required equipment within 30 days after hire, complying with company attendance policy, maintaining a flexible work schedule to meet the changing needs of the job, and being available for shop on-call rotation and able to do road calls using a company vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance service on tractor and trailers.
- Perform light repairs and minor electrical repairs.
- Pressure test and diagnose coolant systems.
- Check alignments and diagnose problems.
- Drive or be trained to drive tractors and/or tractor-trailer combinations.
- Check and diagnose electrical systems.
- Read preventative maintenance list and keep current on preventative maintenance due.
- Perform light repairs on 'Driver write-ups' and 'fuel island' repairs.
- Work Fuel Island as needed.
- Clean shop areas as needed.
- Maintain fleet tires.
- Comply effectively with company work and safety rules.
- Effectively communicate both written and orally with supervisor and peers.
- Follow directions.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Obtain a set of tools and tool storage within 3 months of date of hire.
- Be trained and certified to operate any required equipment within 30 days after hire.
- Comply with company attendance policy.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Tech School classes or equivalent training preferred.
- Possess a Valid Class C Drivers License.
- Have 2 years experience in preventative maintenance, minor repairs on tractor and trailers, some electrical diagnostics, light repairs, dismounting and mounting tire machine, use of tire bars, and use of tire gun.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp and reach above the head for extended periods of time.
- The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.

Pay rate: $20.00 per hour.
Monday-Friday, Mon: 1pm-9:30pm, Tues-Fri, 10am-6:30pm
