Various locations throughout South Weber (Davis County) and Salt Lake County. Swing shift; must have own tools, be available for some weekends and holidays, and possess a valid driver’s license.
About the role
Repairs and maintains construction equipment and mechanical equipment such as trucks, trailers, bulldozers, excavators, motor graders, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other equipment.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot problems, making economical and durable repairs.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists and hand tools.
- Maintain and repair heavy equipment, trucks, shop, and non-mobile equipment on a company-wide basis.
- Service vehicles/equipment including oil changes, greasing, adding fluids, changing filters, and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc.
- Order parts and supplies; maintain purchase orders and invoices.
- Operate computer for job functions.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
- Repair or replace defective parts.
- Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Start devices to test their performance.
- Weld broken parts and structural members.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- May be subject to drug testing, medical exams, and physical agility testing.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 5 years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic, including mechanical maintenance experience with heavy-duty construction equipment (e.g., Komatsu and CAT dozers, excavators, motor graders, water trucks, light-duty support vehicles, and small-engine equipment).
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to work well with others in group or one-on-one settings.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Typing and keyboard skills; knowledge of database software.
- Valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above shoulders.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and extreme cold and/or heat.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
