About the role

Oneida County, located in beautiful northern Wisconsin, is accepting applications to fill a Mechanic/Communications Liaison position with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Responsibilities

  • Help maintain and repair the Sheriff's Office fleet, including squad cars, ambulances, heavy trucks, and other County-owned equipment
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot public safety communications systems, emergency vehicle electronics, radio equipment, computer equipment, and related technology used by the Sheriff's Office and other public safety agencies throughout Oneida County
  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns
  • Assist with maintenance of radio tower sites and backup generators
  • Maintain equipment inventories
  • Coordinate repairs with vendors as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General knowledge of gas and diesel mechanical repair
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of emergency vehicle electronics, communications equipment, radio systems, and low-voltage wiring (desirable)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and maintain contact with the Sheriff's Office as needed
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, and any other pre-employment testing required by the Sheriff's Office

Pay and benefits

  • 2026 hourly starting wage: $25.79 to $30.22 (starting pay based on previous education and experience)
