Mechanic - Class A CDL

About the role

Troubleshoots, repairs, and conducts preventative maintenance on Port Houston equipment and supporting equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment or machinery including but not limited to container handling units, yard tractors, forklifts, vehicles, and terminal chassis.
  • Diagnose and repair component parts of machinery including gearboxes, hydraulic systems, brakes, compressors, and other related parts; diagnose and repair chassis components and systems, brakes, pneumatic, suspension, and alignment.
  • Utilize computer or diagnostic tools to enter and retrieve information.
  • Provide cost estimates for repairs to equipment and machinery including engine overhaul, body repair, and work order requests.
  • Use hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels, and other tools proficiently to carry out assigned tasks.
  • For yard truck and chassis repair, remove, repair, and replace transmissions, engines, brakes, suspensions, exhaust, fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Read and use factory manuals and blueprints as required to fulfill job assignments.
  • Coordinate repairs and maintenance schedules and delegate work duties to subordinate staff.
  • Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours.
  • Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 4+ years related mechanic experience required.
  • A current, valid Texas driver's license is required.
  • A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment and be maintained for the duration of employment.
