Mechanic/Bus Driver

Responsibilities

• Perform tire changing, lube and oil changes, and washing/cleaning of cars, buses, and trucks.
• Assist Mechanic and Head Mechanic as required.
• Examine vehicles and discuss with Head Mechanic or Mechanic the nature and extent of damage or malfunction.
• Raise vehicle with hydraulic jack or hoist to access mechanical units bolted to the underside.
• Remove units such as engine, transmission, or differential for inspection and repair.
• Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear; repair or replace parts including pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings.
• Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.
• Rebuild parts such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks.
• Rewire ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.
• Reline and adjust brakes, align front end, repair or replace shock absorbers, and solder leaks in radiator.
• Mend damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts.
• Replace and adjust headlights, and install and repair accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
• Respond to requests for service and assistance; follow policies and procedures.
• Use time efficiently; observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions.
• Use equipment and materials properly.
• May be required to drive bus route.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
• National Certification for Bus Driver Mechanic preferred.
• Must possess a valid Arizona commercial driver’s license (CDL).
• Must be 21 years of age or older.

Working Environment

The role requires frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms, and talking or hearing. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Pay

Salary based on column F: $18.25 per hour.
