Mechanic

Via · Okaloosa County, FL · 1 mo ago
Manufacturing$25–$30/hrFull-time

Via is using technology to transform transportation around the world. From changing a single person’s daily commute to reducing humanity’s collective environmental footprint — we’ve got huge goals.

About the role

As a Mechanic (Class A) on Via's Operations team, you'll be hands-on every day—diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the buses and support vehicles that keep our transit service running. This is a technical, floor-focused role for someone who takes pride in getting under the hood, solving problems the right way the first time, and keeping a fleet on the road safely and reliably. This is an in-person position with the expectation that you will be on-site 5 days per week. While standard schedules are provided, this role does require flexibility to work occasional evenings, Saturdays, and extended hours as business needs arise.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on transit vehicles and support equipment, including fluid changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, tire rotations, and scheduled service intervals.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across engines, transmissions, braking systems, HVAC, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
  • Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and DOT-compliant safety inspections, identifying defects and completing repairs in line with regulatory and manufacturer standards.
  • Respond to road calls and in-service breakdowns, troubleshooting issues on-site and coordinating with the Maintenance Manager to minimize service disruption.
  • Use automotive test equipment, diagnostic software, and manufacturer diagrams to isolate issues and verify repairs.
  • Complete accurate work orders and maintain detailed service records for each vehicle, including labor, parts used, and root-cause notes.
  • Keep the shop and work areas clean, organized, and safe: tools returned, fluids stored properly, and hazards addressed before they become issues.

Requirements

  • Vocational automotive training and hands-on experience in medium/heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
  • Hands-on problem solver who enjoys working on the floor, not behind a desk.
  • Comfortable reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools and comfortable learning new maintenance software.
  • Detail-oriented with documentation—work orders are closed out cleanly, records are accurate, and the next shift knows exactly what happened.
  • Comfortable with physical work, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in varied shop conditions.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Class A Mechanic preferred.
  • Hold a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Successful completion of mandatory pre-employment drug test, criminal background check, and motor vehicle records check.
  • Pass a drug screening and background check: no felonies, clean MVR, no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions, and no more than 2 speeding tickets.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment physical.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $25-30 per hour.

Benefits

We are proud to offer a generous and comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, including health and retirement benefits.
