Posted Mechanic Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform morning inspections of buses operating the daily schedule.
- Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on all Steamship Authority vehicles and other equipment connected to the Vehicle Maintenance Facility as directed by the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.
Required Knowledge:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Driver’s license, preferred commercial Class A or B
- Experienced gas or diesel mechanic, preferred experience with electric buses
- Experienced brake systems technician with the ability to adjust, diagnose and repair problems with air systems, as broken or malfunctioning air valves in the braking system
- Experienced or knowledge of Cummins, International and Caterpillar engines and all accessories, water pumps, alternators, accessory belts, and radiators
- Experience running computer diagnostic tests for gas & diesel engines, vehicle systems and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions
- Experience or knowledge of replacing tires, adjusting and replacing brakes, replacing all front-end parts and completing front-end alignments
- Experience or knowledge of completing oil changes, repairing and servicing bus auxiliary systems, replacing lights, repairing passenger entry doors and luggage compartment doors
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Able to lift 50+ lbs. and work in varying conditions
Position pay starts at $40.80 per hour.
