About the Role
The Mechanic position ensures high availability of plant electrical, power, and instrumentation & control (I&C) systems and components. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining the Preventative Maintenance (PM) Program, proposing improvements to enhance reliability and production efficiency, supporting plant projects, and developing long-term solutions for recurring problems.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and equipment.
- Promote and enforce company safety requirements.
- Manage housekeeping expectations for all work assignments.
- Create and maintain mechanical procedures, specifications, manuals, and documentation.
- Conduct daily activities to promote plant reliability and productivity.
- Perform duties in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Supervise short-term contractor and service work by external parties.
- Provide technical support for procurement and material/service orders.
- Other duties as assigned by the MDF Maintenance Supervisor.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in production plant equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, instruction manuals, OEM drawings, and plant diagrams.
- Strong work ethic and ability to mentor team members.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Availability to work shift schedules, overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, including off-hours callouts for plant reliability.
Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; two-year degree in mechanical or electrical technology preferred.
- Exposure to electrical systems and equipment/components.
- Basic computer skills for work order and parts management, including Microsoft Office software programs.
- Comfort with numbers and basic mathematical calculations.

- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions with clear communication.
Work Environment
The Mechanic position operates in a manufacturing environment in Barnwell, SC, and may be exposed to:
- High/low temperatures, sun/rain, and confined spaces.
- Moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and wet/humid conditions.
- Ambient air, temperature extremes, combustible dust, fumes, airborne particles, and traffic.
- Toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
Physical requirements include:
- Standing for a full shift, climbing stairs, walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving a lift truck.
- Occasional lifting of components up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Key Relationships
- Internal: MDF, Maintenance, Shipping, and Administration.
- External: Vendors, suppliers, service contractors, and other Krono Swiss plants.
Most communication, verbal and written, is preferred in English to successfully complete the scope of work.
