About the role

Troubleshoot transit coaches and Authority equipment to ascertain faults, determine and perform corrective action. Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections, service and repair on road calls. Use test equipment, including electronic engine and transmission diagnostic equipment and shop tools common to the trade. Use service manuals and publications to determine technical information.

Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of mechanical repair procedures to assess and resolve repair or mechanical problems
• Expert knowledge in theory and application of:
  • Hand tools, heavy-duty air brakes system, S. Cam, compressed air systems, drive lines, and transmissions
  • Electrical systems including charging and starting system
  • Electronic diagnostic troubleshooting
  • Steering, front axle lubrication, suspension, and cooling systems
  • Four-stroke cycle diesel engines
  • HVAC systems
• Refer to, read, and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and other technical publications
• Complete written repair orders legibly for jobs performed
• Maintain and prepare maintenance-related records and repair orders
• Evacuate and recharge air conditioning systems, change tires, and perform other required work
• Isolate and repair electrical problems, perform engine tune-ups, and replace components such as generators, starters, and power trains

Requirements

• Knowledge of heavy-duty air brakes system, S Cam, and hydraulic brakes
• Computer literate
• EPA 609 Freon Recovery Certification required

Pay

$42.30 hourly / $87,984.00 annum

Schedule

Mechanic positions may be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts, including weekends and/or holidays. Assignments may be at Elmwood, Newport, and/or Paratransit facilities.
