Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable of job hazards and safety requirements, utilizing required personal protective equipment (e.g., welder’s shield).
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Examine critical parts and operating components of heavy equipment for wear, defects, or damage.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on company-owned or leased vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and longevity.
- Repair, replace, clean, and lubricate vehicle/equipment parts as necessary.
- Examine and repair hydraulic components for fluid leaks, ruptured hoses, or worn gaskets.
- Use hand-held computers or diagnostic devices to diagnose components needing adjustment or repair.
- Use jacks, cranes, and hand-held tools to dismantle and reassemble parts.
- Rebuild or replace engines, repair hydraulic fluid pumps, and correct electrical problems as required.
- Operate various types of light and heavy equipment and over-the-road trucks for maneuvering into service and repair locations.
- Travel to job sites to make repairs to heavy equipment as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must have a mechanical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of diesel engine repair.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to locate, read, understand, and follow instructions in SDS material safety data sheets.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be available to work overtime as required.
- Must work safely and follow all instructions related to Company policies and regulatory agencies (DOT, OSHA, MSHA).
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all established Company safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
