Mechanic

About the Role

The primary role of the Equipment Mechanic is to maintain and repair a variety of equipment including diesel engines, heavy trucks, workover rigs, pumping equipment, lifting equipment, and other rig and drill-out oilfield related equipment. The mechanic performs preventive and corrective maintenance, failure analysis, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, assembling, and rebuilding of components or equipment either in a shop or on location, with or without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of equipment including but not limited to:
  • Diesel/gasoline engines (Cat, DDEC, MTU, Cummins, Perkins, Mack)
  • Transmissions (Allison 4700 OFS, 6000)
  • Winches (Electric, Hydraulic)
  • High pressure pumps (0-3000 psi, 0-5000 psi, 0-10,000 psi)
  • Workover rigs (late model, 300 hp to 600 hp)
  • Centrifugal pumps and air compressors
  • Pneumatic valve and hydraulic systems
  • Mobile/overhead crane and gear boxes
  • PTO’s, 12 and 24-volt electrical systems
  • Chassis and suspension, rims, tires, and wheels
  • Forklifts and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Wellhead and supporting oilfield equipment
• Executes required procedures for preventative maintenance and inspections as mandated by Axis and customers.
• Performs basic troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Repairs and refurbishes hydraulic power equipment; installs or replaces new or reconditioned parts.
• Reads and follows repair manuals to perform listed repairs.
• Reads and interprets basic measuring equipment.
• Operates and maintains power equipment and lifting devices; conducts follow-up testing for proper operation.
• Orders parts as necessary with prior approval.
• Troubleshoots breakdowns and issues on various types of oilfield well service equipment.
• Responds to calls from operators for troubleshooting, either at the shop or wellsite.
• Performs proper diagnosis based on troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
• Conducts routine maintenance or repair work, including engine and transmission overhauls, unit engine swings, cleaning, and lubricating parts.
• Repairs and maintains rotating equipment such as motors, engines, mud pumps, drum brakes, draw works, swivels, laydown machines, high-pressure fluid ends, and power ends (frac pumps).
• Disassembles and reassembles non-working equipment to like-new condition, followed by extensive safety and operational checks before field deployment.
• Works as part of a team in the shop and field, assisting other maintenance employees.
• Completes work in the shop or field on rigs and service equipment, depending on assignment.
• Completes required paperwork as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; certification from a trade or technical school in maintenance or Diesel repair highly preferred.
• Five (5) or more years of solid, proven work experience on oilfield equipment or similar field with diesel engines and hydraulics.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license; Class A or B license preferred.
• Strong and proven hydraulic knowledge, including experience with complex hydraulic systems and understanding of open-loop vs. closed-loop systems.
• Experience with laptop-based troubleshooting software such as CAT Electronic Technician, Cummins Insight, Allison Trans, Mack Tech Tool, Detroit DDEC, and MTU.
• Preferred experience with specific equipment: CAT C-15, Cat C-32, Detroit 14-liter, MTU 16v2000 (Tier 2 and Tier 4), CM 850, Cummins QSX 15, Allison 750/4750 OFS/6000/8000 series transmissions, Cotta drop boxes, Cooper right-angle boxes, and 224 Twin Disc air clutches.
• Ability to demonstrate safe work habits and work well in a team environment.
• Work may be performed in all weather conditions.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to work at heights of 50 ft. or more using ladders.
• Long periods of standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, or similar physical activities may be required.
• Ability to work with protective equipment near heavy tools and moving machinery.
• Mobility to enter confined spaces, use ladders or other access devices, and perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, twisting, crawling, and walking.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Basic problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation.
• Able to clear pre-employment drug/alcohol and job-relevant screens.
